The newly built family house is located in Brno – Komín, on Palcary Street. The small plot is gently sloped with a north-south orientation, and access to the plot is from the south, while the garden area of the plot slightly rises. The house is freestanding, two-story, with a flat roof. It utilizes the rising terrain and is partially embedded within it. The cut in the terrain creates a visual barrier for outdoor seating.
The house has a cubic shape with two recesses that lighten its mass. The recessed terrace on the ground floor is complemented by generous glazing with an HS portal and a long strip window facing west, which optically separates the mass of the second floor and allows it to "float" above the terrain. The lightness of the entire solution is emphasized by simple materials – white plaster with a self-cleaning effect, naturally anodized aluminum windows, and exposed reinforced concrete outdoor walls.
The internal spatial arrangement of the house reflects the slope of the surrounding terrain and responds to it with a combination of two classic floors and an entrance mezzanine. To reach the main entrance, one ascends with the original terrain using several exterior steps around a recessed covered terrace along the eastern facade of the house. A spacious cloakroom and bike storage adjoin the entrance hall and lead to the main straight staircase. From the staircase, we descend into the main social zone – the living area with a kitchen, dining, and workspace corner, while a toilet and a cool pantry are tucked away "behind the furniture" under the stairs. The previously mentioned covered terrace is directly connected to the living area. A staircase leads up to the private zone of the house with three bedrooms (rooms), a dressing room, a bathroom, a separate toilet, and a laundry room with a technical corner.
The design of the house also included detailed interior solutions with an emphasis on designing built-in furniture in the living area. This consists of a single furniture unit in white, complemented by blue and yellow elements, uniting the furniture wall with a television, the kitchen unit with a recessed niche, and a line of low cabinets under the strip window which also form the windowsill, surrounding almost the entire space. The furniture is made of white laminate with accents of two shades of blue and yellow (the investors' favorite colors). These colors are also reflected in the doors to the rooms on the upper floor, while all other doors are white.
The design is complemented by outdoor garden arrangements. Most of the plot is lawned, and paved areas are minimal. In the front part of the plot along the fence, a linear planting of a live hornbeam hedge with two separate serviceberry trees is proposed. The access path and terrace are lined with beds of ornamental grasses and flowering plants, ended with a solitary lilac bush. In the back corner of the garden, utility beds are designed. The northern fence is enlivened by raspberries and blackberries. Over time, lush greenery will grow along the west and east sides. The roof is also green.
Technically, it is a combined load-bearing system. The walls are built from brick blocks. The floors consist of poured Cemflow Look, and the ceilings are exposed reinforced concrete. The house utilizes rainwater for flushing toilets and washing.
