Family house Královo Pole

Family house Královo Pole
Purpose and Location of the Building
The subject of the project is the construction of a low-energy family house in the Sadová area in Brno. The building plot is flat. It is a single-story family house with a shed roof measuring 21.8 x 8.0 m in footprint and a height of 3.35 m above ground. The building does not have a basement.
The area of the building is predominantly gardens, with several family houses in the vicinity. The actual plot is flat to very slightly sloped towards the street. There is an existing access road to the plot.

Site Description
The plot in the allotment garden colony by a very low-traffic road has an elongated shape close to that of a right triangle. The longest boundary is to the north. This fact influences the positioning of the house towards the northern edge of the plot and the elongated rectangular shape of the house. The setback from the northern boundary is 2 meters, and there are no windows from living rooms oriented to this side. The setback from the neighbor to the east is 3.8 meters.

Spatial, Architectural, and Artistic Solution
The house has a rectangular shape measuring 21.8 x 8.0 meters. Its longer side faces south. This orientation is advantageous for maximizing thermal gains during the winter months. The entrance to the house is from the south and divides the layout into two parts – the western part for social activities, where the living room and kitchen are located, and the eastern part for rest, consisting of bedrooms and necessary facilities. All living rooms are oriented to the south, while service rooms, including the kitchen, face north.
The entrance to the house consists of a vestibule with an adjoining storage room; from the vestibule, one enters a hall, which can be connected to both the kitchen and the living room via a sliding wall, creating one living space of approximately 60 m². This living space is connected to a terrace from the west. From the hall, there is access to a toilet with a washbasin, and from the kitchen, there is access to a utility room. The hall also provides access to the main communication axis of the quiet part – the hallway. This hallway is spatially connected to south-facing rooms – a guest room, two children's rooms, and the parents' bedroom with its own bathroom and dressing room, and to the north, the main bathroom and the children's dressing room.
On the eastern side, in the gap between the house and the wall supporting the roof, there is a designated parking space.
The family house is a horizontally-oriented block clad in light wood with an east-west axis. In accordance with the principles of low-energy construction, it is closed off to the north and maximally glazed to the south towards the garden. The roof extends 1.5 m beyond the footprint of the house to the south to provide natural shading against undesirable summer overheating (when the sun is high in the sky), has a three-meter overhang to the west covering the terrace, and a four-meter overhang to the east serving as a carport. Shading will be provided by aluminum exterior blinds.
