We were looking for a way to create something more than just a hole in the ground full of water for the pool, which would only be used for a few weeks a year. We wanted the pool to look good even when it is not actively used. For this reason, we situated the pool in the rock garden in alignment with the living room. We enlarged the existing window opening in the house to the width of the pool and glazed it with a frameless window, enhancing the unobstructed view of the Novohradské mountains framed by the water surface. The boundary between the exterior and interior is minimal.
We connected the pool structure to a garden shed, whose roof serves as an extended terrace, and we positioned the entire structure about 1 meter below the existing terrain, which we finally graded and leveled, thus fulfilling another point of the brief. A steel pergola with a bike storage, outdoor cabinets, pool, and garden shed wraps around the house like a symbolic ribbon. Everything is clad in Siberian larch slats, creating a design connection among all the new constructions.
The view from the living room over the water surface changes with the alternating seasons, allowing the clients to experience a constantly new atmosphere of the place. Even after three years of use, they are still enthusiastic, and for us, that is a sign of well-done work.
