Garrison Church of St. Casimir Prince

The garrison church consecrated to Saint Casimir
Address: ul. Skłodowskiej-Curie 20, Katowice, Poland
Completion:1930-33

The Katowice garrison church is the first example of a functionalist sacred building in Poland, built according to the patterns of avant-garde European architecture and is also the most significant sacred structure completed in the interwar period. The church was consecrated on November 22, 1931. The interior features original furnishings in the Art Deco style: a stone main altar, side altars, a balustrade, a baptismal font, as well as original sculptures, confessionals, benches, and lamps.

Main characteristic features:
- mass exclusively composed of prisms
- the corners are highlighted by a slender block that narrows upwards and serves as a bell tower
- narrow tall window slits
- the mass of the parish building is optically separated from the church by a rounded corner
