On October 20, 1740, the Austrian archduchess Maria Theresa ascended to the throne. On October 20, 2020, a nearly six-meter statue of the Enlightenment monarch Maria Theresa by sculptor Jan Kovářík and architect Jan Proksa was unveiled in the park in Prague's Hradčany near the exit of the Blanka tunnel.
The sole intention of the artistic solution for the monument to Maria Theresa was to highlight the pure essence of what we envision under the term "great ruler." A noble presence, a high status, and a significant social mission. This was represented in a strictly form-reduced yet precise concept, striving to achieve a timeless archetype capable of speaking in broader temporal and cultural contexts.
Jan Kovářík
