Municipal Office Loket

The small village of Loket in the Central Bohemia region attracts visitors most of all with its tranquility. We can confidently add that since 2013, thanks to us, it has a new landmark - the municipal office building.
We approach every new construction with humility and due respect. However, this does not mean that we only think in traditional dimensions. On the contrary, we strive to bring new and fresh architecture even to such a traditional environment as a small Czech village surely is.
During discussions with the mayor and the representatives of Loket, we understood that we could be bold in our designs. Of course, we were limited by the budget, but in other respects, we were given a very free hand.
The seemingly simple building was decided to be “dressed” in wood. The entire exterior surface was filled with wooden slats, and only their larger gaps determined the placement of the windows. This resulted in a very compact yet light entity that makes a favorable impression on every resident and random visitor.
Our intention was also to adequately mark the building. Therefore, we created a simple wall, which we colorfully incorporated into the office building, but by omitting wood in this case, we gained an appropriate surface for a typographically clean inscription complemented by the emblem of the Czech Republic. Last but not least, this element unobtrusively points to the main entrance.
The surroundings of the building only underscore its uniqueness - simplicity emphasizes the dominant position that the town hall should have in every village. However, we did not aim to create a monument but rather a natural dominance that everyone will accept as their own.
From our own experience, we know that it is not always possible to bring such a design to final realization. In Loket, we succeeded, thanks in part to the great people at the local town hall. Thank you for the opportunity.
