The aim of the project's realization was, in accordance with the overall urban concept of the new city center, to enhance the square in Orlová-Lutyně as an intimate space separated on the northwest side from the busy Masaryk Street by a residential building with a commercial ground floor and connected to park and natural greenery on the southeast side.
The proposed solution is based on the context of the environment. It connects to the existing buildings of the town hall and cultural center from the 1980s. Emphasis was placed on unity, cohesiveness, clarity, and logic in the arrangement.
The square is designed as a quiet square area, regularly treated with differently colored squares of brick paving. A linear greenery in the form of a row of trees is placed around the entire perimeter. In the central position, a water feature – a fountain – is situated. The fountain with an abstract sculpture of an eagle is designed from solid natural stone and bronze, with a rectangular floor plan, which is bordered on three sides by a stone bench. Inside the fountain, there are three levels of water surface. The water image is formed by three jets positioned at the back on each level, spraying in the direction of the descending surfaces. This designed water surface is not only an aesthetic element but also enhances the comfort of staying in the square. The regular order of the square, in regard to the paving and distribution of greenery, creates a framework for the placement of urban furniture. Emphasis is particularly placed on the quality of materials and thoughtful functionality.
The newly designed residential building is designed as barrier-free and oriented towards the busy Masaryk Street. Towards the square, there are individual housing units of 2+kk and 3+kk with recessed loggias. Rentable commercial spaces are designed on the ground floor of the building. Beneath the structure and under the entire square area, there is a level of underground garages with access via a ramp from Masaryk Street. The façade of the building is clad in a uniform surface of red brick, echoing the color scheme of the brick paving of the square. This creates a cohesive artistic whole, remotely evoking the original brick architecture of mining and residential buildings in the Ostrava region from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
