Look Up

Look Up
Address: Willy-Brandt-Alee 320, Gelsenkirchen, Germany
Completion:1999

The administrative building for the young and ambitious advertising agency LOOK UP has grown on a depleted coal seam. The form of the building was designed at the request of the investor to reflect the ambitious spirit of the company and to create a contemporary architectural milestone. The architects opted for a minimalist approach with an emphasis on construction details. The building consists of three floors, with the first concrete floor housing the production part of the advertising agency—a print shop—while the upper two glass floors contain a creative working environment. This concept is very clearly evident on the eastern facade, while the western concrete facade somewhat weakens this principle. The southern concrete shading slats pleasantly soften the cold effect of the concrete. The LOOK UP administrative building is a construction masterpiece, drawing its form from the traditions of Swiss neomodernism and Japanese modern patterns. It is a quality example of architecture at the turn of this century.
