concept

The atmosphere of storage areas, workshops, transport depot, the charismatic district of Přívoz, and the pulsating Stodolní street. The poetics of the industrial district and the strict conversion of a part of the gas company's operational area create an emotionally impacting whole in the center of Ostrava.
Adaptation of the garage, storage, and laboratory facility into a cafeteria for employees with a public café and customer center. Everything that is justified from the perspective of the building's further existence has been preserved. The above-ground floors are wrapped in a grid of a frameless façade system. The panels of aluminum and glass extend out from the sidewalk, finished only at their own edge, gently slicing the sky. They define a prism. The application of the standard product ignores the impractical exposure of the used technologies. Repeating and transparent elements are arranged based on the optimization of thermal losses and gains, with artistic intent and in accordance with the organization of the interior spaces. The façade technology creates a climatic interface between the external and internal environments. The spatial interface of both environments allows for suppression. Matte black and semi-permeable surfaces of the glass create a torn image reflecting both environments, enhancing their perception. The internal atmosphere is built on the interaction of the refurbished clunky skeleton and the precisely executed outer shell. The new layout integrates a number of operations without collision solely by arranging the built-in support block. The minimization of the means used in refined combinations evokes an unfinished multitude of impressions, stemming from preserving the autonomy of the original and the original-replacing. Systematic approach, concrete, polymer concrete, aluminum, Alucobond, glass, industrial coatings, Corian, structural sealant were used.

façade
Non-standard application of the façade system Hueck Hartmann Systherm 60 and the glazing system Eckelt vario. Atypical solution of repeating thermal-insulating opening (= lightweight) parts. One grid, two modules. A parapet without cladding, the axes of the door hinges in the joint axis, the end of the façade at the sidewalk without a base. Glass panels and Alucobond sheets on one plane. Consistent and sophisticated use of the system and its elements fully develops its possibilities. Paradoxically, it allowed for improved insulation properties, reduced acquisition costs, facilitated maintenance, and extended the expected lifespan.

interior furnishing
The interior is predominantly executed using construction technology. The furnishing items - objects - are scaled to the building. They are adaptable, purposeful, and easy to maintain. Visible technologies without cladding are not a result of aesthetic intent, but rather the low ceiling height of the operational part.

outdoor modifications
Park - square. It is formed by geometric shapes derived from the module of the façade system. Concrete pavement, strips of polymer concrete, tropical wood IPE. The crowns of Catalpa trees form parabolas of indirect lighting from sources embedded in the pavement.
