Atelier YUAR architects designed new offices for Productboard in Prague's Libeň. Productboard helps product managers in over 4,500 companies understand the market and respond to customer demand with well-conceived digital products. The new offices in the DOCK IN THREE project in Prague's Libeň span over 2,000 m² and will continue to grow.
Concept "Work In Progress"The architectural studio YUAR is among the leading domestic firms specializing in office design. They have previously designed spaces for companies such as Siemens, Porsche Czech Republic, RSJ, and Unipetrol. The architects also lent their touch to the George café chain in the buildings of Česká spořitelna.
"We give names to our design concepts, and the one for Productboard is called Work In Progress," explains Lukáš Janáč, founder of YUAR architects.
"We had precisely nine months for the realization, from the design phase through approvals to the final details. Although the pandemic of covid-19 posed challenges, we ultimately managed to pull it off. This was thanks to the proactive approach of Productboard, which has quick decision-making processes, and also to the services of YUAR Architects. For our clients, in addition to design and construction projects, we provide project management, meaning responsibility for the process, deadline, and budget. Thanks to the Design & Project management service, we achieve the best design for the given price, which, in this case, went through a reduction of exactly 30% due to covid-19 measures during the design stage," says Lukáš Janáč.
Flexible Workspaces In addition to ergonomic workstations with adjustable tables, the architects designed up to 14 different types of meeting spaces and rooms, some of which allow for relaxation and, ultimately, a special bouldering & yoga space for movement activities. The office is designed for 178 workstations. However, it is unique in the number of alternative spaces that can serve for meetings and consultations or calls with colleagues abroad or clients around the world, accommodating significantly more people.
"Since we are partly located in San Francisco, Vancouver, Prague, and plan to open branches in Dublin and London soon, we need a lot of meeting rooms, quiet corners for uninterrupted phone calls, and also places where colleagues facing uncomfortable jet lag can comfortably rest. We are glad that with the help of YUAR architects, we managed to create spaces that perfectly meet our needs while reflecting our unique corporate culture," says Daniel Hejl, co-founder and CTO of Productboard.
Ergonomics of Space In an area of 2,050 m², 178 employees can comfortably settle, with the company currently having over a hundred people in Prague, a hundred in the USA, and twenty in Canada. Each employee can utilize one of the 260 alternative spaces arranged in open areas beyond their designated workstation. The Prague office primarily employs software engineers and product managers, which the company is actively seeking.
Among other things, there are 14 different types of meeting spaces or rooms: a working room for team creative work, a meeting 'daily room' with an option for overnight stays, focus or doublefocus rooms for concentrated work, a podcast room for preparation and production, phone booths, classic meeting rooms of various sizes, and a so-called 'scrumpoint' for team organizational meetings, including online participants. All rooms are fully equipped with audiovisual technology.
For regular work, there are three spacious daily offices: Park, Marina, and Avenue, created in a team spirit and offering views of the skyline of Vítkov or Marina with yachts. The space also includes a 450 m² central 'square' prepared for hosting events, featuring a significant detail – lighting in the shape of the company's logo.
Offices Prepared for GrowthIn case of further growth, Productboard has also rented two additional floors of the building, which are currently leased to other companies.
"We are preparing for global growth and expect that in a few years we could be, for example, four times our current number. Overall, we have rented 4,350 square meters and are thus fully prepared for additional colleagues to join us," explains Hejl. The design is conceived so that all floors can be connected by a single internal staircase.
YUAR Project Management The realization of such extensive offices amounts to higher tens of millions of crowns, and the entire project was managed using the YUAR Design & Project management system, where the project author takes responsibility for deadlines and budgets. For the successful execution of the interior, it was also necessary to select suitable partners.
"The suppliers went through a rigorous, multi-stage tender process, and it is appropriate to thank everyone who participated," notes architect Janáč. The general contractor for the construction was DT Expert, and the general contractor for the furniture was TECHO / Ahrend. Other partners included ProInterier, Stavební interiérové systémy, U1 Lighting, NTT Czech Republic, AVT Group, G-Data, Silent-Lab, and others.
Award for the Offices in the Start-up Category at the Office of the Year 2020 Competition
Lastly, the offices of Productboard caught the attention of the jury at the 5th annual Office of the Year competition, where they won in the Start-up Office of the Year 2020 category. This, alongside the victory of the offices by YUAR architects in 2017 and 2019, confirms the quality of their designs.
