In the 19th edition of the competition for young studios for the summer pavilion PS1 at New York's MoMA, the duo of architects Jennifer Newsom and Tom Carruthers from Minneapolis won, collaborating with engineer Clayton Binkley from ARUP to create the temporary installation Hide & Seek, consisting of a series of large-scale mirrors installed in black steel frames complemented by netting. The resulting object serves not only as an artwork or architectural shelter but also invites visitors to participate actively. The nets stretched into the steel frames allow for athletic performance on a trampoline, but also relaxation in a hammock. The movable large-scale mirrors not only visually expand the cramped courtyard but also play with reality.
YAP (Young Architects Program) will continue in affiliated museums in Rome's MAXXI and Chile's CONSTRUCTO.
