Habitat '67

Habitat '67
Architect: Moshe Safdie
Address: Pierre Dupuy Avenue, Montreal, Canada
Completion:1964-67

Habitat '67 is a model housing complex built along the St. Lawrence River in Montreal, consisting of 354 prefabricated units that together create a three-dimensional structural framework. The modules, or as they are called here “boxes,” are interconnected in various ways to form 158 residential units ranging from 600 to 1700 square feet (56-158 m²). A pedestrian street runs through the entire residential complex. Habitat '67 was the realization of Safdie's thesis project, which was titled: "A Case for City Living, A Study of Three Urban High Density Housing Systems for Community Development," which was also the main theme of the World Expo in Montreal in 1967.
