Motorcycle Workshop

On a cold winter day, his old but fully equipped and functional workshop vanished almost before the eyes of the builder, where he spent his free time with colleagues and friends united by a love for two-wheeled motor vehicles. It burned down completely, including several finished and unfinished examples; fortunately, the fire brigade managed to save a relatively newly completed construction of the gamekeeper's lodge renovation – thanks for that. Almost immediately after the fire was extinguished, we were approached to build a new, better, and primarily fire-resistant workshop. Thus, we eagerly began designing, continuing our previous collaboration. We are adhering to the main plan of the entire complex, the distinctive architecture of the renovated gamekeeper's lodge, and the original floor plan shape of the workshop. The high glass part with a shed roof radiates energy and allows for an exhibition of the motorcycles themselves before and after the renovation. It provides ample diffuse light and dynamizes the volumetric composition. This part is followed by a low mass of the workshop itself with doors, a strip window illuminating small mechanical work on the adjacent table. We orient the stay stage toward the forest landscape – an eye into the landscape with an elevated floor. The roof with intense greenery (perennials and grasses) does not disrupt the view from the work area of the gamekeeper's lodge into the open landscape of the mixed forest and embeds the workshop into the landscape as if it had always been there; it is fascinating how, three months after the completion of the building, the greenery has "taken" this object and integrated it into the existing community of the forest. Given the lively fire activity, we are realizing the supporting structure, cladding, and equipment from non-combustible materials.
