Apartment building in Via Quadronno

Condominio in via Quadronno

Apartment building in Via Quadronno
Statika:Aldo Favini
Address: Via Quadronno 24, Milan, Italy
Project:1956-59
Completion:1960-62

Designed between 1959 and 1960 by Angelo Mangiarotti and Bruno Morassutti, the apartment building in Via Quadronno is considered a prime example of modern Milanese housing. The building is the product of innovative methods employing prefabricated modules. Bypassing any obligation to face the street, it is a tower overlooking its surrounding gardens. The Rational structure of reinforced-concrete pillars and slabs allowed total freedom in the internal arrangement of the apartments, different on each floor. On the exterior, the fronts were also freely defined, with three different solutions: windows, wooden slatted panels and roofed balconies. Despite the mixed composition, the broken lines of the building display a surprising overall unity. The climbing plants covering the fronts are part of the design.
