Apartment Building Kopečná

The residential block closes and newly defines the corner of two streets in Brno city center. By relocating the street front on Leitnerova Street, sufficient daylighting of the western side of the building is achieved, as well as the creation of a semi-private space in front of the entrances to the building.
The completion of the block is divided into four buildings. Three buildings are oriented towards Leitnerova Street, and one towards Kopečná Street. The buildings on Leitnerova Street feature a tilted facade motif with a vertical strip window in the staircase, and the apartments are oriented east-west. The section on Kopečná Street also has a staircase's vertical strip window visible from the street, and the apartments are oriented to the north and south. The steep incline of the street was utilized for placing separate entrances to three garage levels. The courtyard facade has a regular rhythm of a repeating type of two-part French window. Continuous balcony consoles run across the entire facade, evoking the original tenement houses.
A large communal inner courtyard is arranged into two interconnected terraces at different height levels. This creates a safe environment for children playing in the garden and allows for supervision from the balconies of the apartments.
The structural system consists of a masonry monolithic skeleton. From the outside, the entire building is unified with a facade of raw red brick. The courtyard facade is simply plastered and painted white.
The building contains 74 apartments ranging in size from 45 to 120 m², six shops on the ground floor, and 84 parking spaces.
