Vivid saturated colors in the spirit of the Czech tricolor have become the main element of the interior of an apartment in the center of Prague. And if you're wondering, yes, it is a rental housing. Therefore, originality and practicality were important elements of the design. Why the tricolor exactly? The author mentions that the courage for bold colors in the interior was inspired by travels in South American countries, especially Mexico.
The architect did not want to design a classic studio where sleeping is visible right from the entrance, so he decided on the proposed solution. He divided the space into a lower living area and an upper sleeping area. When creating the design, it was important for the author to find the right proportion between the size of the new floor and the space below it, ensuring the airiness of the entire area. Therefore, he designed the inserted floor as two stacked and mutually rotated slabs supported by only one slender column. Each level thus has a different height, and the slabs can serve as a workspace rather than just a sleeping area. Both slabs are accessible via a comfortable cantilevered staircase, but the higher slab can also be accessed via a ladder.
"The entire new internal structure is highlighted in a rich blue color. And as mentioned, in contrast to the blue, a bright red color is used in the hallway. The furniture is in subdued tones, while some accessories are in the aforementioned colors to unite and ground the entire interior,” says the architect.
The living space is connected to a terrace, which serves as an additional room in the summer. Because the terrace offers ample space, it is divided into different height levels. The higher level is sunnier and invites lounging on comfortable seating furniture. The lower level, which is almost in contact with the kitchen, functions as a summer dining area.
For a more pleasant climate, especially in the summer months, sedum tiles (note MobiRoof ECO) were used on the terrace. These tiles are pre-grown, meaning they are immediately green. The selection of drought-resistant sedum does not require watering with potable water. Additionally, the tiles retain rainwater due to their construction, which would otherwise flow directly into the sewer system. The architect admitted: "This solution I've used for the first time, and I look forward to observing how this system works."
The modern interior with a loft feel is designed to be practical and comfortable. The furnishings, furniture, and accessories are a combination of completely new items and those the owner already had. A chair or dining chair only needed reupholstering, and furniture belonging to grandparents gained a new life. The design works with mottos like ReThink and ReUse, which the architect has long applied in his work.
