Completion:2009
Area:246 m2

Parts of the project to convert the former kindergarten into office spaces included a rooftop extension (new third floor). The newly planned third floor was to accommodate an apartment, or rather, an almost "house on a house."
Ivana Dombková from the studio DESIGN by DONLIĆ began working on the concept of the extension at a time when the renovation of the existing first and second floors was already underway. The location of the new communication hub with an elevator to the third floor and an escape staircase was predetermined, as was the statics of the two existing floors and the roof area of the building, designated for the concept of the new apartment and its remaining part on the southern side for a generous terrace. The access to the apartment is from the southern side, and the entrance node intersects the terrace. However, two huge glass surfaces in the walls of this "nook" visually connect the terraces once again.

Spatial Solution and Materials
The living area (living room, dining table, and kitchen) is designed as one open whole, fully glazed on the southern side and thus connected to the terrace. In the eastern "wing," two children's rooms and a guest room are arranged in parallel behind each other (again facing south with full glass walls leading to the terrace, on the northern side there are only wardrobes modeled by furniture (without walls), a laundry room including a cleaning room. A separate toilet serves, just like the bathroom on the eastern side, for these rooms or for daily use.
Behind the living area in the western "arm" is a hub of interconnected functions - study, bedroom, dressing room, bathroom, a passage shower to the sauna and fitness.
The overall concept of the third floor is naturally reflected on the outer shell, but it succeeded in connecting it with the solution of the shells of the lower two floors. Static problems were resolved with exposed columns on the terrace, on the beams resting on them, and on the northern wall the roof is practically suspended. Only the terrace could not be designed as green; the structure and load capacity of the original building's roof did not allow it.
The functions of the third floor naturally connect to each other; the individual parts of the apartment are visually linked, everything is "smooth," clean, light cream tones combined with solid oak emphasize the purity of the solution but also its durability. Rest, a feeling of comfort and elegance, books, chess, music, good food inside or on the terrace, a hot bath on a snow-covered terrace after the sauna... Such was the assignment.
All interior furnishings (design and realization) come from the studio Donlić, only the chairs and relaxation armchairs are from the Thonet brand.
