Beautiful Bohemia

First fully electric cruise ship by VH Architects

Beautiful Bohemia
The first fully electric excursion boat Bella Bohemia is already sailing the waters. Vera Hampl and her studio VH Architects design not only the interiors of commercially successful operations but also boats. The latest, Bella Bohemia, is unique in several ways.

Zero Emissions
Its operation is zero-emission because all the vessel's operations, including propulsion, are provided by batteries with a total capacity of 100 kWh. These batteries operate at a voltage of 600 volts. For this vessel, "Voith inline thrusters/propulsors" with a maximum power of 2 x 55 kW were used as propulsion. These are electric motors capable of rotating 360°, ensuring excellent maneuverability. This type of electric motor is used on luxury yachts and marine vessels as a docking aid, but it has been used as the main propulsion for the very first time.

Uninterrupted Sailing
Bella Bohemia was custom-built as a personal boat for sightseeing cruises in the center of Prague. In regular operation at 50% engine power, the boat can operate for over 6 hours. Charging from the shore takes about 3 hours. For safety reasons, the vessel is also equipped with 2 diesel generators that can recharge the batteries and cover all consumption even at full power. These generators can fully recharge the batteries in less than an hour. At full load, the battery capacity lasts for one hour of operation.

Its advantages are mainly silence, lightness (thanks to the use of aluminum as the fundamental building element), ecological friendliness, and the charming panoramic view from the upper deck, thanks to the fully glazed walls.
